Believe it or not, the cold weather approaching doesn’t necessarily mean it is too late to have a new roof installed. In fact, if your existing shingles are cracking, curling, or have blown away months ago it would actually be very wise to to have some roof work done before winter is here. Of course, you don’t want to try and have new shingles installed when the temps dip too cold; it doesn’t lead to a secure installation. If you are thinking about having a new roof installed, here are some things to think about for your roof and the winter:
Condition of Existing Roof
If your roof is in true despair then it’s definitely a fix that should be dealt with way before the snow falls. Even if the structure shows signs of wear, but had no trouble in the summer – the winter can be completely different. The weight of snow and ice can cause damage to an old or damaged roof.
Roof condition does go both ways too. If the roof confidently has another winter left in it, then wait it out until spring. The best bet though would be to have us perform a roof inspection just so you know 100% that the structure can make it through another cold season.
Why Installation in Cold Temperatures Doesn’t Always Work
If you are having asphalt shingles installed, they need to be installed in specific temperatures to form a seal with the layer underneath. When it gets really cold, air compressors and other equipment also have a harder time working outdoors.
Benefits of Having Roof Installed Before Winter
Most contractors agree that autumn roofing is a great time for the project. Days are shorter in the fall, but you also may get more working hours in the fall due to weather.
Possible Reasons Why You Might Wait Until Spring
The good thing to know is that if your roof is in need of an upgrade, you still have time to have the work done (for now at least!). Concerned about your roof and the winter? Give us a call today to schedule your free roof inspection.
