This past weekend had unbelievably cold temperatures across Minnesota. Some people choose to brave the cold and go out, while others stayed inside where it is warm and comfortable. During these cold temperatures, it is important to protect your house. A few tips for keeping your house toasty even when it is freezing outside:
-Keep your garage doors shut. When you arrive back at your house, close the garage doors right away. Leaving them open can cause heat loss and you might be able to feel the temperature difference in the rooms near the garage.
-Keeping drapes or blinds closed can help prevent heat loss. Open them up when they are in direct sunlight.
-Replace your furnace air filter and if you suspect it is not working as well as it should, have it inspected. Staying on top of inspections and repairs is important since we experience such cold weather.
-Installing the clear plastic wrap over windows is an expensive option to help reduce cold drafts.
-When was the last time you checked your antifreeze levels in your cars? Ensuring that the levels are okay before temperatures drop is always a great measure to take!
-Check your insulation levels. Call your local insulation contractor like Snap Construction and Affordable Insulation for an attic inspection. Upgrading your insulation will help lower your energy bills, prevent heat loss, and keep your house more comfortable!
